NO MORE PLAYING SMALL
Listen to Auntie Kim, I'm giving you permission to be defiant and to make your needs and goals the priority. Even if others around you are telling you otherwise, yes, they love you and they want to keep you safe. But we all know that nothing great happens when you’re safe. You deserve every winning opportunity that you open yourself up to.
Don't let anything, including any self-imposed limitations, stand in the way of you doing the thing you really want to do. 2021 is your year. No more playing small, no more holding back. Let's go.
EMBRACE VIDEO MARKETING
In 2020, everyone was at home spending a lot more time at home and they turned to TikTok for quick entertainment, entertainment in 10 or 15 seconds. And later in 2020, we saw Instagram release reels its TikTok equivalent. So the signs are pointing to video marketing.
Now, as an entrepreneur, this might scare you a little bit. You might prefer to stay behind the camera. I know that's my preference. I'm much more of a writer than someone who likes being on camera. But I have slowly flexed this muscle over time and it has gotten easier.
So my recommendation for you, instead of telling you to jump into TikTok or jump into reels, start with Instagram stories. If you haven't yet, that is the easiest place to practice showing up on camera. And by that, I mean, showing your face, people want to connect with you, whether you are the face of your brand or someone on the team of the business that you work for.
Start showing up on camera. Film 15-second clips on Instagram stories, knowing that they disappear in 24 hours, there's no permanency. And once that becomes more comfortable and more familiar, you can apply that exact same concept to Instagram reels. You don't have to over-complicate you can simply talk on camera for 15 seconds, share a tip, share something useful that your audience would enjoy.
Add a little bit of text so that there's some context as to when people are looking at your video. If you have the music feature, go ahead and add some music, but again, not necessary, just an add on and hit publish. That reel could get you 10 X, the normal views you would get on your stories or on your IGTV because Instagram's algorithm is pushing people to watch reels.
It's an opportunity that we've all been given. So embrace it.
CLARITY COMES FROM ACTION
Sometimes we think that we need to have it all figured out before we can take action, but sometimes action actually helps us figure it out.
A little weird, right? But trust me, if you are stuck trying to move forward in your business, take a little baby step, sign up for a course. Talk to a friend, share with your community every little bit helps. And the more steps you take, the more clarity you'll get and you'll continue to move forward.
USE PRIVATE PODCAST FEEDS
2021 is all about innovating and standing out from the crowd and meeting your customers in a way that makes sense for them. And what we're finding is that most of your customers are listening to a lot of stuff right now.
Audio is on the rise. Podcast listenership specifically is up to record highs as far as it goes with mainstream consumption. When we think about private audio feeds and the use cases in your business, what we're looking at is the marketing standpoint of constructing offers and maybe adding an order bump or an audiobook and that you would actually use a private audio feed to deliver that.
And the other side is in the educational realm and the paid content. So if you have a paid course or a paid mastermind, or an event, offering a private audio feed of that event could actually increase consumption of the content.
When we're thinking about private podcast feeds in your business, I'm going to give you a couple of reasons why I think it's important and how it can make you stand out in your marketing and the way that you offer the ability to consume your content.
So the first one is what I've kind of already addressed is that it meets people where they're at. And what we love about podcast feeds is it organizes your content in a way that they're familiar with where they play in order and they're named appropriately. I don't know about you, but maybe you've been a part of a course that had an MP3 below a lesson but getting those MP3s downloaded on your phone, playing in order is kind of crazy. And so the fact that the podcast feed actually can deliver the audio in a very streamlined way is definitely an amazing reason to include it. Because it allows your listener to consume it in an orderly fashion.
The second reason why you might want to have a private podcast feed in your business is you're allowing your customers to consume while they're doing something else. So when it comes to podcasts, listening, or listening to an audiobook, you'll often hear that those listeners are actually washing the dishes or, you know, taking the dog out or, you know, taking a walk or cleaning the house or doing laundry, all the different tasks, the more mundane tasks that we do.
And I think in this day and age most people are overly, distracted and they're not creating the time to consume your content. So by giving them the option of a private audio feed, you're basically saying, “Hey, I'm going to make this so easy for you.”
And the cool thing is it's also related to screen time. A lot of people we're finding, especially with COVID and everything that's happened in 2020, they're trying to cut back on it. There's a little bit of a backlash to having to sit in front of your computer. So think about when you listen to a podcast, the phone is in your pocket, it's in your purse and you have headphones in. You're not looking at a screen. You're put in a good light as the business owner, meeting them where they're at in their pocket, not wanting to look at a screen.
The last thing I would say about a private podcast feed and why it would be valuable in your business is the more consumption that you can offer, that the people actually get success with. It builds know like, and trust, and it actually creates better results, which they then get the results that you're promising in your program.
I highly recommend that you launch a private audio feed for some of your content in 2021, and really stand out from the crowd as far as getting people to consume your content.
