Why Freedom Is No Longer My Core Value

TRANSCRIPT

TRANSCRIPT AUTOMATICALLY GENERATED Hey, Hey, this week, I want to chat about one of my core values, or maybe I should say one of my old core values because I'm changing things up a little bit. And I know it seems a bit strange to say this value is at the core of my being. And then to be like, well, actually I've changed my mind, but hear me out. So I have always said that freedom is my number one core value. I've said it on probably every podcast interview I've ever done. I probably said it multiple times on this podcast, like some kind of like Braveheart character screaming it out into the world. And recently I've really been sitting with, what does that mean? And what does that look like? Because this concept of chasing freedom. It's pretty popular in the entrepreneurial world. Right. But it means so many different things to so many different people. And so when I was searching for how do I explain this value as it relates to me with more clarity, For someone who wants to learn about what I stand for, what does that actually look like? And so obviously, because I'm a super nerd I started with what is the actual definition? And according to the Cambridge dictionary, it's the condition or rights of being able or allowed to do say, or think whatever you want to without being controlled or limited. And here's why I think the. Kind of chafing or stickiness is coming up for me. It's that last little bit without being controlled or limited For me, freedom is so tangled up in the thing that we're seeking freedom from that it almost becomes a little bit. Constraining on its own. So for me, I started looking for freedom from the corporate world from being told, when I had to shove up where I had to show up and how I had to show up. And I realized that. Speaking about that now, so many years later, it's tied up into this bitterness of how my corporate career ended. So when I'm seeking freedom in my business, I'm seeking this not corporate thing instead of aspiring to something I'm running from something and it feels like it's starting to hold me back. So as I was diving deeper into, okay, if I was to take away this without being controlled or limited piece of it, what would freedom on its own look like? And I realized that the thing that I'm actually chasing isn't freedom, but flexibility. What I'm really choosing is flexibility in my own business. And that's what I strive to help my clients achieve the ability to choose your focus in the moment to choose when you focus on money, because you have the time to choose when to take a vacation because the money will take care of itself to choose how you show up and how you deliver it in a way that really works for you. to choose rest, when you need it to choose peopling, when you feel like you can to choose to hibernate, when you need to protect your inner. It's the ability to choose what works for you. It's not about being free from. Someone else's way of doing business. It's about being flexible to do business the way you want to do business. So to me, a core value of freedom, which has worked for me in the past is just no longer applicable it. No longer describes what I stand for. So for me, freedom is too tangled up in the, what am I trying to be free from? Flexibility for me, focuses on my choice and what I want and how I want to show up. And that's exactly what I help my clients do. So if you've heard me talk in the past about freedom being my number one core value, and you suddenly hear me talking about flexibility being my number one core value. I wanted to make sure you understood I'm also pretty sure I'm not the only person who's ever said. You know what? That core value no longer stands for me. We grow and we change as people and as business owners and constantly revisiting, what do I want my business to stand for is something that we need to do as part of that growth. They need to evolve as you have evolved?

I’ve been shouting FREEDOM since I started my business but it’s limiting me so here’s what I stand for instead.
